Cancun, Mexico, A Sunny Destination

Today I've survived a major snowstorm that has dumped two feet of snow and brought icy road conditions, high winds, and frigid Arctic temperatures. I was able to walk two hundred yards to a local Mexican cafe to get a burrito and now all I can think of is that trip I took to Cancun, Mexico long ago.

Cancun, a Mexican city on the Yucatan Peninsula that borders the Caribbean Sea has impressive turquoise colored beaches, and a numerous amount of resorts and nightlife. At this current moment in mid January it is 79F/26C in Cancun, a perfect temperature for boating, sunbathing, swimming, and walking along the beach. With its swaying palm trees, vibrant coral reefs, and unique archeological sites, Cancun is an ideal place to relax and have a sunny vacation.

Top Things To Do In Cancun:

1. Sit on the beach with a refreshing beverage or find a hammock to swing on when you're not swimming in the beautiful turquoise water.

2. Spend time at Nichupte Lagoon, a paradise representing a vast area of natural reserve for the mangrove ecosystem. Sail on the lakes or take a tour.

3. Get a feel for the local side of Cancun at downtown's El Centro and enjoy the markets and restaurants.

4. Scuba Dive or Snorkel and discover what lies in the Caribbean Sea.

5. Enjoy some Nightlife as there are a number of clubs and bars in the hotel zone region of Cancun.

6. Indulge in delicious, traditional Mexican food. Some of the best meals can be found on the streets. Foods to try; Tamales, Shrimp Ceviche, Soup de Lima, Papadzules, Paunchos, and Tacos will please your palate.

7. Take a tour of the Mayan Ruins. 'Chichen- Itza" in the Yucatan Peninsula was once a sacred city. More than thirty ancient buildings can still be seen here. It is considered the largest and most impressive of the Mayan Ruins. A full day tour is recommend if you're staying in Cancun.

8. Ventura Park, a family amusement and water park is a fun-filled place for adults and kids.

CANCUN has a narrow 14 mile (22.5 kilometer) island known as "hotel zone" where vacationers stay in hotels, resorts, and villas. Some people love the all-inclusive resorts. Over at "El Centro" known as downtown you won't be right near the beaches but the area is more budget friendly and authentic, plus you can take a bus to the hotel zone which takes approximately twenty minutes.

Those that live in cold winter climates have their share of wonderful things to do, but if you dream of a sunny place to escape, Cancun, Mexico will provide you with great weather, beautiful Caribbean beaches, delicious food,  and plenty of accommodations to fit your budget. Your stresses will melt away and you'll come back home feeling sunnier.

CANCUN, MEXICO in the Yucatan Peninsula, is the heart of the Mexican Caribbean and welcoming tourists year-round.
